5 Trends From NYFW 2019 to Try on Your Wedding Day

Calling all fashion lovers!

The holy grail, otherwise known as New York Fashion Week, has come and gone for another year. When it comes to runway fashion, it can sometimes come off as too couture and untouchable for the average person. But we think you can pull so much inspiration from the catwalk (and even the city streets) that can be incorporated into your bridal look! Today, we’ve rounded up five of the 2019 NYFW trends that can easily be translated to wedding attire for your big day, to help you strut down the aisle (hello personal runway) in style!

Suited Up

The 80s power suit is making a triumphant return to the runway, only this time it’s in all white. Designers like Tory Burch, Carolina Herrera, and Prabal Gurung all put their own spin on the post-labor day taboo. If in your day-to-day life you don’t typically wear dresses or you just want to do something unique for your wedding look, a suit is a great way to look chic but still add a sultry touch by tying up your suit jacket or leaving it open.

Corsets

From fair Verona to the New York City streets, a Renaissance love affair has taken over fashion week. With designers like Christian Siriano, Jason Wu, and Anna Sui all including corsets from sheer bustiers to traditional boning in their runway collections. Corsets might not be the most comfortable option, but they do provide a great mix between sultry and romantic for your wedding look.

Tiered Dresses

Designers Alice + Olivia, Tommy Hilfiger x Zendaya, and Oscar de la Renta decided to bring the ethereal trend to the forefront this fashion week. A tiered dress will give your wedding gown some dimension and you could even alter it to have tiers peeled away to create a shorter dress for your reception look.

Tiered dresses aren’t completely new to the fashion scene, they’ve been popping up here and there throughout the years. Most recently with Hailee Steinfeld rocking a “No Photos Please” tiered gown by Viktor and Rolf at the 2019 MET Gala back in May.

Feathers

More is more this season on the runway. From big puffy sleeves to lots of color, designers aren’t shying away from unconventional looks. Another one of those out of the box trends has been feathers, whether they’re covering an entire gown or just lining it, designers like Alice + Olivia and Prabal Gurung have put them on display in a number of pieces from their collections. If you want to join the flock for your big day, you can commit to a fully feathered skirt or just strategically placed feathers, but either way you’d be making a major fashion statement.

Sculptural Necklines

Not only would you not have to worry about pulling up your dress every five seconds on the dance floor, but you could also play with your jewelry choices and pick pieces that accentuate or complete your dress neckline.

From one shoulder blouses to cut outs, sculptural necklines are popping up throughout fashion week from designers like Prabal Gurung to Zimmermann, as well as Ulla Johnson. In the bridal industry unique necklines have become more in demand than the typical strapless and sweetheart gowns.
