Money Monday: 3 Items Couples Forget to Add Into Their Budget

When putting together your wedding budget, there are a lot of items to include, which can make it hard to keep track of them all. The venue, catering, and attire costs are the obvious items that are usually first to go on the list. Smaller details like the bridal shower costs and tipping vendors can often be overlooked, adding up over time, because they were left out of the initial budget. Go into booking vendors with a solid budget that accounts for every aspect of your wedding right down to the marriage license! Trust us, you’ll thank yourself later when you don’t have to constantly increase your budget. Here are a few items to keep in mind when you are planning out your wedding budget!

Pre-Wedding Costs

That last celebration with your girls does come at a cost! It can be so easy to get caught up in the main events of a ceremony and reception that you forget to factor in any pre-wedding activities into your budget. Create a section of your budget that includes costs for a bachelor/bachelorette party, bridal shower, rehearsal dinner, etc. These items can tack on hundreds, sometimes even thousands, of dollars to your overall budget, so it’s better to account for them in the beginning.

Marriage License

You can’t officially say “I Do” without a marriage license! In the grand scheme of things, this is a small detail, but you will need it to legally tie the knot with your partner. Marriage licenses can cost anywhere from $20 to $100, depending on where you live. So, make sure to do some research, figure out how much yours will cost, and factor it into your initial budget.

Gratuities

Don’t forget to tip your vendors! In some cases, gratuities will be factored into the initial price package that a vendor presents to you. But, if you don’t see a gratuity fee specifically listed, make sure to add those fees to your budget. It is typically customary to tip your photographers, caterers, bartenders, makeup artists, etc. So make sure to create a list of whom you will need to set aside gratuity money for as you book vendors.
