Money Monday: 3 Ways Ditching Wedding Traditions Can Save You Money

Wedding traditions aren’t necessarily a thing of the past, but they’re also not a must-do these days. As you plan your wedding if you conclude that certain traditions don’t serve you or aren’t high on your priority list, save yourself some money and time by cutting them! Your wedding day is, after all, exactly that, your day. So, you should be able to plan a wedding that represents you and your partner. If that means cutting traditions like a cocktail hour or wedding favors, then so be it. If you’re wondering which traditions can easily be cut and save you some money, here are a few of our ideas!

Host A Cocktail Style Reception

Get the party started early! A cocktail hour is meant to act as a buffer between your ceremony and reception, but what if it just never ends? If creating a fun dance party is more important to you than a sit-down meal, invite your guests to a cocktail reception consisting of cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, and dancing. Not only will this cut down on your food costs, but you can skip the seating chart!

No Wedding Favors

If we’re being honest, most guests also won’t use or keep your wedding favors. Save yourself a few hundred dollars by not having any at all, then you can put that money towards other aspects of your wedding. If you want to give your guests a wedding favor, try to keep it simple or, even better, edible. Favors like cookies, cupcakes, or candy can act as both a wedding favor and a dessert for your guests.

Skip The Printed Programs

We’ll just say it — some guests will want to keep your printed program as a memento of the day, but most will either leave it on their seat or end up throwing it away. Cut down on your printing costs by skipping out on the printed programs for all of your guests. If you still feel that there is important information you want to relay to your guests, create a wedding program sign instead. You can place this at the entrance of your ceremony so any guests who wish to read it can do so.
