Money Monday: What to Include in A Bridesmaid Cost Transparency Letter

The bridesmaid cost transparency letter seen around the world! If you haven’t already, watch this Tiktok where a bride-to-be shares the transparency letter she sent to all of the members of her bridal party. What exactly is a transparency letter you may ask? It’s a letter you send to your bridesmaids that details the time and money commitments they will be expected to cover for your wedding and also what items you will be paying for. This is a great way to establish early on in the wedding process who will be covering which fees and have clear communication so there are no issues later on. If you’re looking to create your bridesmaid transparency letter to send to your bridal party, here are a few of the things we think you should include!

Wedding Attire

This might seem like an obvious one, but it’s always a good idea to make it clear whether or not you will be paying for the bridesmaid dresses. Typically bridesmaids will cover the cost of their dress and accessories. You will also want to put in any attire specifications, if any, like the preferred color or silhouette of the dress and whether you will be providing any of the accessories as a gift, like a pair of earrings or bracelets.

Other Costs

As a bride, some of the other additional costs you may be covering are transportation to the wedding venue and bouquets. Include a rough timeline for the wedding day and how much time you are expecting your bridesmaids to commit to during your wedding weekend. You should also provide information on pre-wedding costs for bridesmaids like the bachelorette party, especially if you plan on having a destination party, and any transportation fees you won’t be covering.

Hair & Makeup

Hair and makeup costs will depend on whether you are planning to require professional hair and makeup services or have bridesmaids do their hair and makeup themselves. If you are requiring professional HAMU you should state whether you will be paying for it or how much bridesmaids should expect to set aside for this additional cost. If your budget allows, most brides will cover this cost for their bridal party. If you go the DIY route, make sure to include any specifications you may want like a nude lip or updo hairstyle.
