Our Perfect Virtual Wedding Day

Can you hear the wedding bells ringing?

We know we’re currently stuck in quarantine, and that’s been a real letdown for many brides and their partners. A lot of couples are opting to postpone their wedding or are getting legally married, but saving a larger celebration with friends and family for a later date. But, what if you don’t have to wait three to six months for your big day? You may have to compromise a bit when it comes to the logistics, but you can still have a virtual wedding that includes all of your loved ones and is just as special as you imagined. Today, we’re going to walk you through our idea of a perfect virtual wedding that can hopefully inspire you to still make your big day happen as planned!

Pick A Platform

There are plenty of streaming platforms out there, but for a wedding where you will most likely want to see all of your guests, Zoom would be your best option. Wedfuly even partnered with Zoom to help you virtually tie the knot, assisting you in planning every aspect of the day from your processional to the reception. WebWedMobile is also an option that is a one-stop-shop for all things wedding license and officiant. With any platform you choose, consider hiring or designating someone to run your virtual wedding stream and project it on a TV or outside wall to make the stream more viewer-friendly. Plus, don’t forget to send out e-vites letting your guests know when and where to “gather”!

Virtual Wedding Ceremony

For your exchange of “I Do,” try to create a ceremony space at your home that is resemblant to an actual wedding venue. Whether that’s in your living room or your backyard - dress up the space with some flowers from local shops, where you can use the petals to make a DIY aisle. If you already have your wedding dress on hand don’t be afraid to wear it, it’s your day after all, and if not, accessorize any white dress you have or ask your mother if you would be able to reuse her wedding gown for an added nostalgia factor.

Guest Interaction

Without the luxury of celebrating in person, you won’t be able to have guests seated together to mingle during any photo ops or cocktail hour. But, that doesn’t mean you can’t simulate engaging conversations between your guests virtually. Encourage your guests to use the chat function on your streaming platform to share any anecdotes they have about you and your partner and any positive comments they have throughout your virtual wedding day. You could even have your stream coordinator facilitate some wedding games like wedding MadLibs, couple trivia, or wedding bingo.

Just because all of your guests won’t be in the same place doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the same reception meal or cocktail! Use a meal kit delivery service like Blue Apron, Hello Fresh, Home Chef, or Freshly as your “catering service,” sending the same meal to each of your guests, so it’s like everyone is enjoying the reception meal together. The same goes for drinks - send a signature cocktail kit for a watermelon mojito or a citrus martini for a virtual cocktail hour as your guests try to assemble the perfect cocktail ratio!

After Party

Due to the nature of a virtual wedding day, the actual timeline of events from the ceremony through the reception will likely only last a few hours at the most. Once the stream with all of your guests is over, consider having an actual sit-down dinner with your family or “quarantine crew.” This will make your celebration feel more real and like you’re getting to spend quality time with significant members of your close family and friends on your wedding day, as virtual gatherings can sometimes leave you feeling disconnected.

Make It Special

Some extra ideas to make your big day special and more meaningful - have guests take turns giving toasts, cut the cake, and put together a playlist you can share with your guests to have playing in the background of your virtual reception. You can even document your first dance or host the traditional dollar dance, where guests normally pin money to the couple, where for virtual purposes you can have guests Venmo a dollar over the duration of a song. But, no matter how you choose to celebrate your virtual wedding day, make sure you have a top-notch video team to avoid any blurry streams!
