Proposal Trends for Popping the Question in 2021

Popping the question just got a whole lot more personal!

With engagement season in full swing now, don’t be surprised by the number of engagement proposals that will pop up on your feed. Engagement season is no stranger to public, over-the-top proposals and even some private proposals here and there. You should always go with the proposal that feels right to you, but in 2021 proposals are taking a turn for a more personalized and intimate nature. This is partially due to the pandemic and the inability for a more crowd-worthy proposal, but that doesn’t mean your proposal can’t be grand. There are plenty of ways to make a proposal feel elaborate while still preserving a one-on-one moment. We’ve listed five of the proposal trends that are gaining popularity right now and will take your engagement to a whole new level!

Home Transformation

You don’t have to leave your home to have the proposal of your dreams! If you’re more comfortable staying at home right now or simply want a more secluded proposal location, the at-home proposal is getting a modern spin. Quiet, casual at-home proposals are always an option, but why not take it up a notch? Transform your home into a must-see location. Whether that’s flooding your backyard with decorations like string lights and balloons or setting up a slideshow of your favorite photos together on your living room wall, create an experience that is extremely personalized and romantic.

Scout your local city or town for the most romantic, scenic spot to pop the question. This could be a local park that you and your partner visit frequently or a flower garden that has the best lighting at sunset. This will give you a stunning background without having to move too far outside of your home or budget. You can take it even further by planning a romantic picnic or sunset stroll for an added wow factor that will make for the perfect engagement photo op.

Scenic Staycation

You might not be able to have an exotic, destination proposal, but that doesn’t mean you have to give up a getaway altogether. Instead, opt for a staycation at an Airbnb where you live or in a city that is within reasonable driving distance. This will allow you to feel like you’re on a romantic vacation, while still being safe. If you’re able to, try to pick a location that is close to a vineyard, lake, or any other scenic location for a surprise proposal that your partner doesn’t see coming!

Joint Ring Design

One partner blindly picking out an engagement ring to propose with is so 20 years ago! These days joint ring designs are more popular (and encouraged). Not only does this make the process more intimate with a couple working together to come up with a ring design that suits the wearer, but it also ensures that the wearer will be happy with a ring they will be sporting for the rest of their life. Even with a joint ring design, there is still an element of surprise, the actual proposal time or certain ring details can be kept secret. This will make for a memorable experience to be shared between two partners.

Virtual Proposal Party

Many couples find it comforting and momentous to have their families present either for or after the proposal. That’s where virtual proposal parties are going to come into play! Couples can still involve their families in the engagement by hosting a virtual proposal party, either on Zoom or FaceTime, to bring their loved ones in on the occasion. If you’re planning ahead of time, you can send some champagne or wine to your loved ones for a post-engagement toast!
