Something Borrowed: A Guide to Renting Your Bridal Accessories

One easy way to check off “something borrowed” from your wedding to-do list? Rent your bridal accessories!

Not only would this save you money, but you can rent more accessories than you may have been able to afford under your wedding budget. If you were eyeing a designer bridal accessory that just wasn’t quite within your budget, with renting you can have access to multiple designer accessories without the high price tag. With just a few clicks you can have accessories for your wedding ceremony, reception, and rehearsal dinner. Some of the places we suggest browsing are Rent the Runway and Happily Ever Borrowed if you’re looking to rent pieces. Not sure where to start? Here are a few of our tips when it comes to renting your bridal accessories!

Which Accessories to Rent

The real answer is you can rent just about any wedding accessory that you want! But, if you’re looking for a few suggestions we recommend renting your jewelry, purse, and rehearsal dinner look. Most brides will rent their earrings and bracelets if they plan on wearing either. This is a great alternative to investing in higher-priced pieces and you can play around with your style a bit more. If you’re also wary about buying a wedding veil you’ll only wear once or want to rock multiple hair accessories, consider renting these items as well.

Try On Similar Products

Before you click that purchase button or rather rent button, make sure you have tried on a few similar accessories. Whether it’s during one of your fittings, as you are shopping for your wedding dress, or you just take a trip to the mall – trying on potential accessories can help you narrow down the ones you want for your wedding day. You may not find an exact match on rental sites, but you can filter to the style that you are going for whether that’s chandelier earrings or gold bangle bracelets.

Consider Multiple Accessories

Renting bridal accessories can be more cost-effective, so consider renting multiple accessories! This can be a fun way to switch up your look from ceremony to reception. You can opt for simple jewelry and a veil for your ceremony and then switch to a headband or bow and bolder jewelry for your reception. It can also be an easy way to deal with any indecisiveness if you’re stuck between two earring options – rent both and see which you like better or wear them both at different points during your wedding day.

Refer to Your Wedding Gown

You don’t want your accessories to clash with your wedding gown, so it’s always a good idea to refer to its style before you start renting accessories. If your wedding dress is a bright white you will need a bright white veil. There is slightly more wiggle room with ivory dresses, but you’ll want to match your veil as closely with your dress as possible – that includes any lace or other dress embellishments. You also want to consider whether any of your jewelry doesn’t match your wedding gown style, as some bolder choices may not complement the dress you chose.

Order Early

Since you’ll be renting your bridal accessories, you don’t want to wait until the last minute to place your order. Ordering early will give you a better chance of securing the accessories that you want and ensure they will arrive on time. It is typically recommended that you set your arrival date for one or two days before your wedding date and consider a longer rental period so you have more cushion time if there is any delay in shipping.

Consider Damages

Similar to renting a wedding gown, these accessories will be pre-worn, so you should consider that as you’re thinking of renting your bridal accessories. There may be slight wear and tear on the items, but most companies won’t keep an accessory in the rotation if it is noticeably damaged. Also, make sure to read up on the policies for damages while the accessories are in your possession, so you have a better idea if you will need to pay for any repairs if you lose an earring back or accidentally snap a necklace chain. You’ll want to have all your bases covered and be prepared for extra charges if your rental company doesn’t cover damages.
