Care + Storage
Now that you’ve received your LVB made-to-measure gown, here are a few things to keep in mind when handling your gown to make sure it stays intact before and after your wedding day!
Receiving
Don’t keep your gown stuffed away until your big day, you want to make sure to remove it from the box and strip away any plastic covering so the fabric can breathe. But, keep the tulle cover on and store in a dry area away from any direct sunlight, no one wants to send their gown to the cleaners before they’ve even worn it!
Things to Consider
Two words: bra optional! Most of our gowns contain padding, so wearing a bra is based on your own preference. Make sure to wear nude underwear that blend in with your gown and check for any lining issues if you purchased a more form fitting or backless gown. If you plan on sporting shape wear, heels, or any other extra accessories, test them out with the gown before your big day to avoid any day-of running around!
Preparing For Wear
Unless you want to be rocking iron stain chic on your wedding day, make sure NOT to iron your gown. You can steam it starting from the innermost layer to work out any wrinkles on your dress. Steam your gown at least a day before your wedding to eliminate any day-of stress for you or your bridesmaids, then keep a hand-hold steamer with you on your wedding day for any touch-ups. This is why it’s important to unpack your dress as soon as you receive it in order to minimize any wrinkles.
Clean
Immediately following your big day take your gown to a cleaner who can identify invisible stains and give stains less time to set in. If you are DIY savvy and attempt to clean the dress yourself, make sure you won’t be using any products that could stain your gown, otherwise spots that could have been an easy fix can turn into bigger issues. NEVER use bleach to try and remove any stains on your gown, the harshness of the cleaning product can cause irreversible damage to your gown.
Storage
We know that wedding gowns are typically a one shot deal, but it’s always nostalgic to pull your dress out every once in awhile and reminisce. To keep your gown in its best condition store it in an acid-free container or garment bag and keep it out of direct sunlight. Closets or under the bed are the best places to store your gown, avoid areas that experience extreme temperature changes like an attic, basement, or garage.
