How To Plan A Dream Honeymoon On A Budget

The scenic coast of Italy is calling your names brides!

We’re all about not breaking the bank, especially when it comes to wedding gowns. But, we know your bank account can still take a hit from the actual wedding with venue costs, catering, flowers, etc. However, that doesn’t mean you and your partner don’t get to have that European honeymoon you’ve been dreaming of. If you can set aside money early on for the honeymoon, that’s great, but if you’re stuck with a small budget for your trip you can still have a relaxing getaway with your partner. There might be a few compromises along the way, but we’ve listed some of the most useful tips that can help you achieve your dream honeymoon on a budget!

Stay in One City

Instead of moving to a different city every few days, pick a central location where you and your partner would be comfortable spending a few days or a week. If you pick a central location chances are there will be other cities close by where you can take local transportation to go on day trips. You can even plan it so you’re able to visit more than one place if you were to choose Venice, Italy the city of Verona, of Romeo and Juliet fame, is only an hour and a half away. This will be cheaper than arranging transportation and housing for multiple locations.

Pack Light

Most airlines will allow you to take a stow-away carry-on item, as well as a personal item for free. If you’re able to, you can fit all of your honeymoon necessities in those two bags so you don’t have to spend the extra money on luggage. But, if you’re a “what-if” packer you can always share one check-in suitcase with your partner so you only have to pay the luggage fee once.

Consider All-Inclusive

If possible look into all-inclusive options for your honeymoon destination. They may seem a bit pricier at the moment of purchase, but in the long run, they will be saving you a lot of money. You would only have to worry about having money to spend on activities and souvenirs for friends and family or the occasional off-the-resort dinner that you and your partner might have planned.

Book Early

Probably the most important tip is to book your trip early. As soon as you have wedding dates locked in, discuss with your partner when you would like to take your honeymoon and immediately start research. Most airlines will be offering deals or cheaper airfare at least six months in advance of your trip, but the closer you get the more expensive it will be.

Check Deal Sites

Working with a travel agent is a great way to find the best deals, but if you want to save the money to put towards your honeymoon, check out travel websites like Kayak and Travelocity. They typically have great package deals where you can book a hotel, flight, and transportation from the airport all at once. You can also consider using any rewards you may have from a credit card. Paying for wedding vendors through a credit card, only if you know you can pay it off, can help you rack up rewards to pay for honeymoon accommodations.
