Money Monday: Tying the Knot is Getting More Expensive

Get ready brides – tying the knot just got a whole lot more expensive. Due to COVID-19 and the delay of weddings, we have seen a greater increase in overall wedding prices than in years past. Not only are vendors charging more because of supply, demand, making up for lost revenue, etc., but there is also an added category of spending. Many couples are spending an extra $280, on average, for health and safety measures to keep their guests and staff safe. There’s no way to avoid this spike in prices, but you can adapt your plans to these changes in the wedding industry. Here are a few tips on how to prepare for the upcoming wedding boom!

Book and Buy Early

If you want to avoid high prices and rush fees, secure your vendors early on in your wedding planning. Even if your wedding isn’t until late 2022 or even 2023, many vendors are experiencing a high client demand and will be filling up their calendars pretty quickly. If you love a specific vendor, try to book them now if you are able, that way you can secure all of your main vendors and focus on the smaller details as you continue to plan your wedding.

Plan and Save For The Increase

You can always find a way to make your budget work, but now that you’re aware of the higher prices, it would be a good idea to prepare to spend a little more on your wedding than you expected. Start building a cushion into your wedding budget to cover these price differences. Even if you don’t use that extra money in your budget or only use a portion, it will save you from scrambling to secure vendors and come up with down payments later on in your planning process.

Re-evaluate Budget and Priorities

With a hike in prices, it’s most important to take a long and hard look at your wedding budget. Discuss with your partner what are your non-negotiables and which items are you willing to pay more for. Whether that’s a DJ, wedding photographer, or an open bar – you’ll want to adjust your budget accordingly and start researching vendors for an estimate of how much those items will end up costing you.
